DEVLog - February
I cannot believe February already passed. Many things had happened and I would like to review them with you.
Drawmatic
There are good news about drawmatic. This project I started last year finally entered a point where it could be released as a beta. After adding new behaviors and heads to the paths, transformations for the shapes, and copy/paste and text features, the library has improved and the development of an app that implements it has started.
I do not want to rush the things and the app will launch as soon as I think it will be testable by some early adopters. Personally, I would like to launch in this quarter of the year, so by the next month I should have something, but it is just a preference and not a commitment.
The app will have a different name more related to the functionalities of the tool I want to release. My plan is to release the first official version by the middle of the year, but who knows if it can be ready sooner.
Designing Infrastructure with CloudFormation
Automation is important to integrate development with operations. This month I had to implement many automation workflows, one of them was setting up a whole infrastructure in AWS using CloudFormation.
The app is pretty similar to the example, with some obvious differences since every system is different and may require other services or use services of other platforms instead the given by AWS.
If I have to say something about this experience is be smart. AWS earns money providing its services, so the tutorials and documentation will guide you for a unique way, probably the best for large scaling systems, but also expensive. My recommendation is be smart, critical, and study your requirements in order to create your own solution.
AI/ML Professor
This month I received the offer to be professor of artificial intelligence and machine learning. At first, I did not like the idea very much, but after a tough negotiation and thinking for a couple of weeks I accepted.
Venezuela seems to be a backward country, but nothing could be further from the truth. I want to teach people to develop real world applications that change the vision of the country and who knows, maybe make me rich.
Beyond cultivating the minds of the future, I think there are few opportunities to get a team of 20 software engineers for free to work on my personal projects. This motivates me to teach them well, and putting them huge challenges in order to achieve big things by the end of the semester.
The Bottom Line
This month was quite productive and I had a lot of fun. I expect great things of March and I really want to tell you the things I will achieve this month.
On March I plan to continue enhancing my infrastructure skills, launching something related to drawmatic, creating an app for the PI day, and starting my journey as an AI/ML professor!
